Since the fund's inception, grants totaling $15,500 have provided a wide range of assistance from a new section of nature trails at Minerva Central School to an instructional program offered by North Country Outreach Center to teach people how to preserve their own harvested foods.

CFGMR distributed its first grants in 2006. A total of $2,500 was awarded to the following organizations:  

  • Cheerful Cricket Nursery School - scholarships for low-income families
  • Johnsburg Food Pantry - to purchase a freezer and additional electric costs
  • Minerva Service Organization -a new nature trail section at Minerva Central School
  • North Country Ministry - affordable housing project
  • North Creek Depot Museum - display cases
In 2007, CFGMR distributed $5,500 to the following organizations:  
  • The Historical Society of Chester - The Sumi Collection
  • North Country Ministry - Affordable Housing Outreach
  • Minerva Central School - arts education
  • Town of Johnsburg Library - the collection of large-print books
  • Collaboration between Our Town Theater and the Adirondack Touring Theater
  • The Priory Retreat - an adult communication skills workshop
  • North Country Outreach Center - food pantry, GED training and family clothing center
  • North Creek Depot Museum - expand their collections

In 2008, CFGMR distributed $7,500 to the following organizations:

  • Brant Lake Foundation - milfoil control and prevention
  • Chester Free Library - incorporation of oral history on website
  • Friends of Horicon Library - moveable bookcase for childrens program
  • Johnsburg EMS - 20kw standby generator
  • Johnsburg Youth Committee - craft supply storage
  • Minerva Historical Society - upgrading to archival quality storage materials
  • Minerva Central School - Middle School trip to Montreal's Biodome
  • Minerva Service Organization - kids ski program
  • North Country Outreach Center - Community garden tool shed, rugs, and food preservation
  • North Country Ministry - housing repairs/renovations
  • North Creek Depot Museum - custom built table/counter
  • Tannery Pond Community Center Association - gallery equipment

In 2009, CFGMR distributed $7,200 to the following organizations:

  • American Legion Auxiliary Unit #625, - to send girls to Girl's State to learn about responsible citizenship and love for God and country
  • Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home- for Chris Sears, working on his Boy Scout Eagle Rank to enhance a garden area for the residents
  • Cheerful Cricket Nursery School- for scholarship assistance
  • Friends of the Town of Johnsburg Parks- for material to build a shade arbor by the tot lot at Ski Bowl Park
  • Johnsburg Historical Society- to put oral histories onto CD and DVD for long term storage
  • Johnsburg Library- to help with building a handicap access entrance closer to the parking lot
  • Johnsburg Youth Commission- for after-school programs
  • Planet Minerva- for their new community garden project
  • Minerva Central School- Middle School students' trip to Boston
  • North Creek Ministry- for purchase of and instruction in the use of car seats
  • North Creek Depot Museum- for smoke detectors and fire alarms
  • Upper Hudson Musical Arts -to redo their website and increase communication clarity

Follow Up

The recipients of grants from the Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region are asked to provide a six month report on how the funds were used.  This helps Adirondack Community Trust and CFGMR administrators to assess the impact of these funds on the community and the people it reaches, in an effort to better serve the region.
