SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS


Many scholarship funds at ACT were created to benefit a field of study where the donors established an advisory committee, defined guidelines for selecting recipients and award use. Each of these scholarship funds has unique interests, from supporting aspiring journalists to assisting future doctors to return to the region to practice medicine. These scholarship funds use a competitive application process to make decisions.

CHARLES B. DECKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Eligibility Graduating seniors, college or graduate students from the Tri-Lakes (Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, NY) and Watertown, NY areas who have an interest in newspaper journalism as a career. Summer internship and special projects in journalism will also be considered for support.
  • Grant Range:  Up to $2,000
  • Interest Area:  Newspaper journalism
  • Application Deadline:  April 12, 2010

WILLIAM T. LOWE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

  • Eligibility:  High school graduating seniors from Plattsburgh City School District who wish to pursue college studies in journalism, English or teaching.
  • Grant Range:  $1,000-$3,000
  • Interest Area: Journalism, English, teaching
  • Application Deadline:  April 15, 2010

SEAN P. MCCULLOUGH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Eligibility:  An outstanding graduating senior from any New York State Section VII high school that plans to continue their education at the college level. Student must be a member of the school track team, must embody school spirit, must demonstrate academic strength, dedication, competitive spirit and good leadership skills. Students must be nominated by their track coach. There is no student application for this scholarship.
  • Grant Range:  $1,000
  • Interest Area:  Track and field sports, leadership, academics
  • Nomination Deadline: May 15, 2010

LYNN G. & ALICE W. PALMER SCHOLARSHIP FUND 

  • Eligibility:  Graduating seniors of Beekmantown Central School who demonstrate an active school, sports, family and/or work commitment and participation in the community. 
  • Grant Range:  $500
  • Interest Area: Family, school, sports, community participation
  • Application Deadline:  June 1, 2010

DR. U.R. PLANTE MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • Eligibility:  A resident of either the Adirondack Park, St. Lawrence, Essex, Franklin, Hamilton or Clinton County of New York State, or have lived in one of these locations for at least two years. Must be accepted by an accredited Medical School in the U.S. or Canada. Must be willing to return to the North Country to practice for two years, or in a remote part of the U.S. or another country where doctors are needed.
  • Grant Range:  $10,000
  • Interest Area:  Medicine (MD)
  • Application Deadline:  April 12, 2010

ESSEX COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • Eligibility:  A resident of Essex County who is attending an accredited law school in the United States.
  • Grant Range:  $500
  • Interest Area:  Law
  • Application Deadline:  June 1, 2010
