COMMUNITY FUNDSCOMMUNITY FUND FOR THE GORE MOUNTAIN REGIONIn 2005, long time seasonal resident, Michael Ellis participated in a thinking session organized by regional philanthropists and ACT. The intent was to spark increased giving from second home and seasonal residents to help address, through philanthropy, community improvement. The Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region (CFGMR) was then established to ensure that the local communities of Johnsburg, Chestertown, Minerva, and Horicon have permanent charitable resources, raised and allocated by local people, to address local needs.
Today, close to $120,000 has been raised for CFGMR to support community beautification, education, culture and the arts, youth & senior programs and historic preservation and $15,500 has been distributed in grants.

The fund committee has adopted a goal of raising $150,000 over the next three years in order to grow the grant dollars available and meet more community needs. You can help us reach our goal.
ACT and an anonymous donor have come together to offer community citizens a $30,000 challenge. Your gift will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $30,000. For example, if you can pledge $500, your generosity will provide $1000, if you can pledge $5,000; your generosity will provide $10,000 to the fund. You can pay your gift over three (or more) years.
The Gore Community Fund has always been overseen by community volunteers. The advisory committee changes over time and the volunteers ensure that every dollar is spent well and wisely. We thank the volunteers who help the fund grow:
