ESTABLISH A FUND
What type of giving is best for you? ACT offers choices to meet your philanthropic needs. Do you want ACT to choose the grantee? Consider a discretionary fund, which leaves the annual grantmaking decisions to ACT to address the most pressing community needs as they arise. It's an excellent way to ensure that your philanthropy transcends the barriers of time and remains relevant. Are you looking for a way to become actively involved in local philanthropy, recommending grant recipients? Then a donor advised fund may be right for you. Or do you want to provide ongoing support for an organization that you already know and admire? Establish a designated fund. DONOR ADVISED FUNDS Allow donors to play a significant role in the grantmaking process. Advisors make suggestions for annual grantmaking to organizations and projects of particular interest to them. Advantages include the ability to make tax-deductible donations of appreciated assets avoiding capital gains tax liability. A donor may establish an endowed or a fully expendable Donor Advised fund. DONOR DESIGNATED FUNDS Provide ongoing annual support to one or more designated charitable organizations in perpetuity. For many donors, this is an ideal way to endow annual giving to organizations they have supported over the years.
SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS Assist individuals pursuing educational goals and recognize individual excellence. A scholarship fund may be started with an initial contribution of $25,000. Donors may specify criteria for scholarship awards and in some cases may be involved with award decision making.
UNRESTRICTED FUNDS Donors who create Unrestricted Funds want to build maximum versatility into their charitable giving. These funds are most responsive to changing community needs. Donors entrust our Board of Trustees to select the most appropriate grantees.
GEOGRAPHIC FIELD OF INTEREST FUNDS Specify particular communities and/or areas of interest - such as social services, affordable housing, public education, performing arts or the environment - to be the beneficiary of income from the fund. An ideal way to give back to your community.
ACORN ACCOUNTS Enable donors to build an endowment fund over time by making small contributions at regular intervals. When the Acorn Account reaches $10,000, it becomes a Fund and annual grants can begin to be made according to donor's wishes. CHARITABLE CHECKBOOK Make a tax-deductible gift of appreciated stock or other assets and then direct ACT to issue "charitable checks" to your favorite nonprofit organizations whenever you wish.
